Buying Printers

Have your printers bought for a fair and attractive fee

Want to sell your old printers or copiers?

Are old printers still worth money?

Certainly not all old printers are still worth money. Unlike other types buy hardware, printers are a lot trickier. There are a few important reasons for this:

  1. Low residual value:
Printers and copiers, especially the older models, often have a very limited market value. They quickly become obsolete due to technological developments and wear and tear. Many buyers therefore prefer to focus on hardware such as laptops, servers and network equipment, for which there is still a relevant second-hand market.
  2. Limited reusability:
Decommissioned printers are often specifically tuned to outdated systems, software drivers or ink models that are no longer widely available. This makes them less interesting for resale or refurbishment.
  3. High transportation and processing costs:
Old printers are relatively large, heavy and often contain few valuable components. The costs of collection, testing, repair or environmentally friendly recycling can be higher than the revenue a printer can generate.
  4. Environmentally harmful components:
Used printers contain parts such as toner cartridges, ink residues and electronic components that are subject to strict environmental regulations. Special processing and disposal are required, which entails additional costs and regulations for the buyer.

Which printers are interesting for IT buyers?

However, as a company you can still receive a residual value for your old printers in some cases. The following types are often still interesting for an IT buyer:

  • Business laser printers from A-brands (e.g. HP, Canon, Brother)
  • Relatively young models (usually no older than 3–5 years)
  • Printers with low print cycles (less wear and tear)
  • Models with multifunctional applications (printing, scanning, copying). These are also called MFPs.

What influences the value of used printers?

There are a number of factors that determine the compensation and value of used printers, scanners and copiers. Consider:

  • Age: devices less than four years old that have current specifications usually have a nice residual value. Older models can also be turned in, but the compensation for this is often zero.
  • Specifications and condition: The printers used must be in good technical and cosmetic condition. If certain components are missing, If missing, the trade-in value will logically be lower.
  • Quantity: The number of devices often also affects the sales price. This is usually higher for a batch, for example more than 10 pieces.
  • Market movement: Supply and demand for IT equipment fluctuates and this affects the purchase price.
  • Other services: Sometimes there are additional costs for extra services. In the case of large printers, for example, there are often transport costs.

Printer Recycling

Printer recycling stimulates reuse and reduces electronic waste (also called e-waste). In this way, companies can contribute to a circular economy and sustainable ICT solutions. In addition, in some cases you can still receive compensation for old business printers, scanners and copiers. You can use this, for example, to renew your IT infrastructure.

Turn in your old printers for money

In some cases, it is possible to trade in old printers for money. Does your company have surplus or written-off printer(s) that are no longer in use? Then act as soon as possible. Because the sooner you sell them, the greater the chance of a return. The purchase price is very dependent on the age of printers.

How does buying old printers work?

The process of buying old printers can be described in 6 steps:

1. Inventory of type and quantity

The process begins with a detailed inventory of the old printers, copiers and scanners that your company wants to sell. We ask you to draw up a clear list with specifications such as brand, age, model and technical and cosmetic condition. Are there any broken printers present? If so, any defects should be reported.

2. Assess residual value of printers (valuation)

We then use the inventory list to make an accurate valuation. You will receive a preliminary valuation from us by email. We offer fair, competitive purchase prices. We will also let you know if the printers no longer have any value.

3. Quotation and agreements

If you agree to the purchase proposal, we will draw up an agreement in which all agreements regarding the sale, such as compensation, transport and any additional costs, are recorded. This ensures clarity throughout the entire sales process.

4. Transport: we will collect your old printers

We offer a low-cost ICT collection service for companies throughout the Netherlands. We will collect your old printers from your location within 10 working days. We can of course also take other IT waste with us. You can of course also hand them in yourself at our warehouse (by appointment).

5. Data destruction

We ensure that all customer and company data that may be present on the devices is permanently and irretrievably deleted. After completion, you will receive an official data destruction certificate, so that you are assured of correct and safe processing.

6. Processing, reporting and payment

After collection or delivery, the printers are brought to our processing department. They are carefully inspected and tested. You will receive a detailed report and the final proceeds will be transferred to your company within 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions – Selling Old Printers at E-Waste Netherlands

How much does it cost to dispose of a printer?

The cost of disposing of a printer depends on various factors, such as size, amount of equipment and location. On average, one can expect:

  • Small desktop printers: often free disposal in combination with other IT equipment.
  • Large office printers (such as multifunction copiers): a pick-up rate for these can vary between €75 and €250, depending on size, your location and the complexity of transport.

Do you buy all types of printers?

We mainly buy business laser printers and multifunction printers from well-known brands such as HP, Canon, Brother and Kyocera. Inkjet printers or older models without market value are often only suitable for recycling.

What is my old printer still worth?

The value of a printer depends on factors such as age, model, condition and number of prints. After receiving your inventory list, we offer a free valuation within 2 business days.

Can you buy a single printer?

No, often 1 old printer does not yield enough because of the transport costs. We usually only buy printers in larger batches. Of course you can also contact us to dispose of 1 or more printers.

Is it possible to recycle only if the printers no longer have any value?

Yes. Printers without commercial value will still be taken in for responsible recycling. We ensure that all equipment is processed according to WEEELABEX and environmental standards.

How quickly can you pick up our printers?

In most cases we can collect your printers within 10 working days after approval.

Do the printers still need to be working before purchase?

Not necessarily. Defective printers can still be used for parts. We assess this on a case-by-case basis and include this in the valuation.

What happens to any hard drives or storage media in multifunction printers?

We remove and erase all data from printers and multifunctionals certified according to ISO 27001 and Blancco standards. You will receive an official data destruction certificate.

What does it cost if we only want printer recycling without any revenue?

If the recycling costs are higher than the value of the printers, we charge a small fee for transport and processing. We always discuss this clearly with you in advance.

Do you provide a processing certificate or destruction certificate?

Yes, after processing you will receive a processing report and, if data has been deleted, an official certificate of data destruction. This way you comply with legislation and regulations.

Can we donate the proceeds from the old printers to charity?

Sure! At E-Waste Nederland you can choose to donate the value of your old equipment directly to a charity or foundation of your choice.

What other IT equipment can we purchase or recycle at the same time?

In addition to purchasing, buying and recycling printers, we also:

  • Servers and routers
  • Laptops and notebooks
  • Computers
  • PCs and workstations
  • Buying phones, smartphones and tablets
  • Network equipment and switches
  • Monitors and screens
  • Peripherals such as keyboards and mice

A combined collection saves costs and time!

Where can I, as a private individual, hand in my old printer?

There are several options:

Many electronics stores offer a collection service for old devices, often free of charge:

  • MediaMarkt: Here you can hand in old electronics, regardless of whether you buy a new product.
  • Gamma and other hardware stores: Some locations accept old small electronics via collection boxes. Inquire in advance with your local store.
